
About the Coalition
In April 2012, the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness prepared Heading Home, a five-year plan to end homelessness in Evanston which culminated in the formation of an ad hoc core committee that came together in 2021 to update Heading Home.
Organized as the Coalition to End Homelessness in Evanston, the Coalition, as it is commonly referred, is composed of nonprofit agencies serving the unhoused, people with lived experience, and the City of Evanston.
The Coalition empowers Evanstonians and our surrounding communities and advocates for our communities of all colors by providing necessary support and sharing information through our communication channels and networks.
Connecting the Dots
Formed in 2021, the Coalition has created a network of like-minded organizations to connect the dots and close the gaps in services provided by city officials, faith and community-based organizations, social-service organizations, and many others that reach the city of Evanston, the 14th largest city in Illinois with a population of 78,834.
Evanston is currently growing at a rate of 0.46% annually and its population has increased by 0.93% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 78,110 in 2020. Spanning over eight miles, Evanston has a population density of 10,134 people per square mile.
The average household income in Evanston is $132,172 with a poverty rate of 11.73%. The median rental costs in recent years comes to $1,433 per month, and the median house value is $409,900. The median age in Evanston is 36.1 years, 34.3 years for males, and 37.4 years for females.
